Free screening: Original Laurel and Hardy shorts
The beloved comedy team of Laurel and Hardy returns to the big screen at Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater. Throughout the 20th century, no one brought the world more laughter than these two gentlemen - the “wry-faced, dim-witted Stan Laurel, with the natural fright-wig hair,” and “the courtly, portly Oliver Hardy, with his bangs and expansive gestures,” as described by Richard W. Bann on the Legacy of Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy.
On Saturday March 16 at 10 a.m., the theater will offer a free screening of four original Laurel and Hardy shorts; “Help Mates,” “Their First Mistake,” “County Hospital,” and “Music Box.” Originally filmed in 1932, the newly restored Laurel and Hardy short films will follow an onscreen introduction from Leonard Maltin; American film critic, film historian, and author.
What will happen when Oliver's house is in shambles after a wild party, and his wife is due home at noon? How do the two comedians survive a sleepless night with a squalling baby? From a broken leg, to total mayhem and an attempt at pushing a large piano up a seemingly insurmountable flight of stairs – you don’t want to miss the perfect harmony of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.
Opening Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m. and playing Saturday, March 16 at 2 and 7 p.m. Followed by the new film “Stan & Ollie” (PG), which brings the unique and timeless characters to the screen to charm audiences once again. Portrayed by Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, the comedy duo set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953 on Sunday, March 17.
