Shorey pleads guilty in Dresden manslaughter case
A man who authorities said was under the influence of multiple drugs when he caused a fatal crash in Dresden in June 2017 has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Patrick J. Shorey, 26, of Augusta and Waterville pleaded guilty March 11 to one count each of Manslaughter, Class A, for the death of 75-year-old Carolyn Blouin, of Rockville, Connecticut; Aggravated Criminal OUI, Class B, for the actions that led to her death; a second count of Criminal OUI, Class C, for the actions that led to the injury of Charles Blouin, 81, also of Rockville, Connecticut; one count of Driving to Endanger, Class D; one count of Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs, Class D; and one count of Operating Without a License, Class E.
Sentencing is May 28.
For the manslaughter conviction, he expects to be sentenced to 10 years, a portion of that to be suspended, with other sentences to be served concurrently. Prosecutors will recommend Shorey serve at least four years in prison, Assistant District Attorney Matthew Gerety said. He said probation conditions would include random drug and alcohol tests and searches, and undergoing substance abuse treatment.
He will owe $2,100 in fines and his driving license will be suspended for 10 years. Because this is part of a deferred disposition agreement, any lapse in probation conditions could lead to Shorey serving the rest of the sentence.
