Fiber arts show in January and February
The Mid-Coast Fiber Artists Group show will be on display works in January and February at the Southport Memorial Library. The Group consists of fiber artists from Camden, the Boothbay peninsula, Edgecomb, Brunswick, and Harpswell.
The group was formed in 2014 by fiber artists Susan Schweigard and Pamela Riml as they were seeking a venue for rug hookers to meet locally on the Midcoast of Maine. Susan and Pamela were previously affiliated with the rug hooking group “The Peddlars,” which met monthly in Old Orchard Beach – a long drive during the winter! They eventually found space at the Wiscasset Community Center, which is centrally located for the majority of their members. The group has 17 members and continues to grow because interest in the fiber arts is always growing. Most are rug hookers though the group has expanded to include other forms of fiber arts. There are now members quilting, rug hooking, weaving and felting.
The Mid-Coast Fiber Artists Group meets monthly for an exchange ideas, information and, of course, various fibers! Each member inspires and teaches through sharing new techniques with one another. This group of fiber artists incorporate their love of color, form and texture in their art, along with inspiration from nature, flora and wildlife.
The Southport Memorial Library is at 1032 Hendricks Hill Road, Southport Island. The library’s winter hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with evening hours on Thursday from 6-8. For more information, call the library at 633-2741.
