Iris giveaway April 25 in Waldoboro
A few Waldoboro women braved the virus and met at a home, outside, at a friend’s residence. The homeowner had a beautifully overgrown iris bed that desperately needed thinning. The irises are a beautiful white, large twice blooming stock. The mood was somber considering the times --- all over 60 years old, not able to visit their families, some having compromised immune systems. But it felt too sad, not quite right, to just discard all this reoccurring beauty.
An idea sprang forth to share this beauty. The bulbs have been packaged in paper bags, with a photo and care instructions. On April 25 at 280 Atlantic Hwy, Waldoboro (at Dow’s Furniture Gallery, which is closed because of the virus), some of these ladies will meet you at your car and hand you a bag or two of these nature’s gifts for you to replant in your garden, that of a friend, or perhaps an appropriate public place. We envision a Lincoln County-wide effort to inspire hope and beauty in these sad times. We hope to see these stellar blooms all over the county in the spring and fall. We will know and remember what we lived through together, remember those that did not make it and be thankful for our time on earth and with friends.
This will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or until they are all gone. Please help pass on this flowering gift of hope and beauty which bears the name “Immortality.”
If you are able and wish to say thank you, please consider donating to your favorite nonprofit group that is helping our communities.
