Lucy N. Marlowe
Lucy Norma (Flint) Marlowe of Boothbay Harbor, 96, passed away on June 24, 2020 at the Plant Memorial Home in Bath, Maine.
Lucy was born on May 14, 1924, the daughter of Henry T. Flint and Eleanor (Van Horn) Flint of East Boothbay. She was married to Fred W. Marlowe for 46 years until his death in 1995. She was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School.
She was an avid history buff, her knowledge of the state of Maine and particularly the coastline was not to be rivaled. In earlier years she had been a volunteer at the Boothbay Region Historical Society. Lucy loved the out-of-doors. She hiked the land trust trails, visited all of the state parks and was one of the original volunteers as the Botanical Gardens were conceptualized. A visitor to almost every state in our country, she found great joy in the beauty of our national parks.
Lucy loved children. She worked at the Boothbay Harbor Grammar School and moved on to the Boothbay Region Elementary School when it was built in 1977, working as a teacher’s aide. She remained until retirement age at which time she and her husband Fred decided to take their first cross country trip, a highlight of her lifetime. That was just the beginning, the travel bug had hit! She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her last two years were peacefully spent at the Plant Memorial Home in Bath, where she loved gazing at the Kennebec River and enjoying the beautiful gardens.
She is survived by her son Richard (Dick) Marlowe of Bath and his wife, Elizabeth, and their two sons Jeffrey of Bath and Ben (Jennifer) of Gardiner; her daughter Lucy-Ann Spaulding and husband Larry of East Boothbay, their daughters Whitney Wright of West Bath and Brooke Spaulding Curran (Sean) of Braintree, Vermont. Lucy had eight great-grandchildren: Savanna, Julia, Nathan, Elijah, Alyssa, and Abigail Marlowe, and Cooper and Marlowe Wright.
She is also survived by longtime friend and companion, Paul Adams of Boothbay Harbor.
Due to the present pandemic situation, a private service will be held for the family. We are grateful for condolences and ask that you think of her with a smile and a prayer. Interment will be at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta.
