September/October exhibit: ‘Something for Everyone’
Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s (BRAF) current exhibit captures the character of Maine from as many angles as there are artists. Having a record-breaking number of pieces, this show has been installed using the Salon-Style of hanging in which walls are utilized to their full capacity. At the same time, each piece of artwork is placed within compatible groupings, giving viewers a sense of continuity. Used in 18th century France, this feature welcomed the common public to enjoy art in conversational interactions.
This members’ show, representing 93 regional artists, also marks a milestone for our foundation. We are celebrating our 55th year of continuous operation as a nonprofit whose mission is to create opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy, learn from and participate in the visual arts.
In addition to the regular members’ show, BRAF is sponsoring two special solo-artist-exhibits in the upstairs area. In Gallery One, Sarah Wilde is presenting her new works in acrylic. Most recently completed is the “Corona Virus Series,” a visual response to COVID-19. An earlier series of abstract works, “Finding Connection” reveals another facet of achieving a sense of balance in these times. In the upstairs Harbor-View Room, Carol Wiley has installed a body of new work entitled “The Shapes of Our Lives.” Wiley, a Jefferson resident, says, “As I gain maturity as an artist, I find myself feeling freer to use a variety of media to explore color relationships, interesting shapes, and linear movement without restriction, as a means to tell my story.”
The current members’ exhibit and the upstairs solo shows will continue through Oct. 12. The Gallery is located in downtown Boothbay Harbor at 1 Townsend Ave. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
