Wiscasset crash kills one
A 26-year-old Wiscasset man died following an early morning, single-vehicle crash May 11 in Wiscasset, police said.
Wiscasset police responded to the accident on the Westport Bridge Road (Route 144) at approximately 2:50 a.m. Saturday.
The driver, Dane Bonang, had apparently lost control of a 2006 GMC pickup truck, which left the road, struck two large trees and went into a ditch, according to Wiscasset Police Department press releases.
Bonang was pronounced dead at the scene. It does not appear that he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said. Two passengers in the truck were both apparently wearing seat belts, Cline said.
Passengers Mike Snyder, 27, and Snyder's sister Hannah Maloy, 16, both of Woolwich, received treatment at Maine Medical Center in Portland for non-life threatening injuries, according to police and family members.
The accident remained under investigation, Cline said May 14.
Wiscasset fire and ambulance crews and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assisted Wiscasset police at the scene.
The Bath Police Department was helping reconstruct the accident, Wiscasset police said.
