Westport Island fixes door, finds hole
According to Westport Island selectmen’s UberConference call Monday night, the salt and sand shed door is fixed, possibly for about $375, and a hole discovered on the town office building will be fixed.
Selectman Ross Norton has tried for weeks to get someone to come fix the door. He said Overhead Door Company of Augusta fixed it and did not give him a quote, “but gave me a guesstimate ... of $375.”
Municipal Agent Dedee Greenleaf-Hodgdon has found a hole in the clapboards over the town office’s bathrooms and attic, First Selectman George Richardson said. It might be an exit for the bathrooms’ exhaust fans, he said. Norton said it was, based on a photo Greenleaf sent him. Then Selectman Gerald Bodmer said he had been near that part of the building and did not recall the hole.
“That’s funny, how that just suddenly showed up like that,” Bodmer said. “But easy to fix.”
Richardson wondered if a fitting, maybe with a damper on it, might have fallen from the hole, but he said Greenleaf-Hodgdon found none. Selectmen planned for local carpenter Gary Richardson to see if it is a vent hole and fix it.
