Some faces changing for Alna’s food pantry, community garden
Alna First Selectman Melissa Spinney announced the following in a town email Tuesday, March 30:
“Chris Cooper made his last trip to the food bank yesterday. He has resigned as pantry helper. We had most of the pantry recipients come yesterday and take large amounts of food so we made sure they will be stocked for a few weeks.
“This will be my last week as food pantry manager/coordinator. I am resigning from that position. It will have to close next week until the new selectmen vote to elect one of them as new manager (if you choose to keep it open which I hope you do). I will provide all of the contacts at (Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program) MCHPP (our sponsor) and Good Shepherd you will need to reopen in an email that will follow. I was required to do food safety training, so you should inquire about that with Eden at MCHPP. The town received a check last week for a grant I applied for in the amount of $4,500. The balance in the food pantry account is about $10,000, so it is well funded. New management for (the) pantry will be added to next week’s agenda since it needs a selectboard vote.
“I will also not be managing the community garden. Jenn Barton and Anne Simpson usually help with that, so the clerk can provide you with their emails. They helped so much last year, I think they can manage the garden themselves at this point, but should be checked in with.”
