Lincoln County Democrats to meet online May 20
The Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) will meet online on Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
Preregistration is required for non-voting members to receive access. Register at https://lincolncountydemocrats.com/meet before noon the day of the meeting to ensure access. They will also do their best to accommodate last-minute registrations.
All Lincoln County Democrats and unenrolled progressives are welcome to attend LCDC meetings. Lincoln County Democrats who are not voting members, may request to become one by indicating interest on the meeting registration form, by contacting Chair Chris Johnson at 207-632-6066, or by emailing info@lincolncountydemocrats.com
The May meeting will welcome a member of the Wabanaki Alliance political advocacy organization to discuss tribal sovereignty legislation and issues concerning Maine’s Indigenous population.
Also during this meeting, the LCDC will elect three representatives to the Maine Democratic State Committee’s Platform Committee and one representative to the Maine Democratic State Convention Credentials Committee. The current platform, a statement of core values that guides the work of the state party, may be found online at https://www.mainedems.org/platform. Prior to each biennial convention, the Platform Committee discusses the current platform and proposes amendments with feedback from county committees and other interested Democrats, to be voted upon at the convention.
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month, starting with social time at 6:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting, usually with a guest speaker, starting at 7 p.m. In order to accommodate the current average attendance numbers, meetings will be held via Zoom for the foreseeable future and can also be accessed by phone only. Details will be shared upon registration at https://lincolncountydemocrats.com/meet or by contacting Chair Chris Johnson at 207-632-6066.
A Community Conversation event focused on the filibuster with Boston College professor and political historian Heather Cox Richardson will also be scheduled for this spring.
The LCDC has also announced a date for its Family Fun Day Lobster Bake, set for Sunday, Aug. 8. CDC guidelines and protocols will be in place to ensure a safe event. More information is forthcoming. If you like to volunteer or add your name to the host committee, please contact gbbates@gmail.com
