Wiscasset voting results: Yes to cruiser buy, everything else
In Nov. 2 election results from Town Clerk Linda Perry, Wiscasset passed all state and local questions, including one voters rejected in June to tap capital reserve for up to $55,000 for a police cruiser.
“I truly appreciate and am thankful for the continued and growing support from the community,” Police Chief Larry Hesseltine wrote Nov. 3 in an email response to a request for comment. “This was a much needed expenditure that will save tax dollars in the end. The first quarter (July-August-September) of this year's budget, we have spent more than $5,400 in repairs on the older cruisers.”
Commenting Nov. 3 on voters’ authorization to lease the former Wiscasset Academy on Warren Street, Maine Art Gallery’s longtime home, to MAG, gallery Manager Kerry Hadley said in an email response: “The entire board and membership of the gallery thank the voters of Wiscasset for putting their trust in both our elected select board members and our town manager for his guidance as well as the gallery itself. The intent of this new lease is to enable the gallery to successfully apply for and receive building restoration and preservation grants, which helps both the gallery and town maintain and enjoy this beautiful 1807 historic structure. This is a much appreciated vote of confidence for all the hard work, wonderful exhibits and community events the gallery offers. Thank you!”
