Candidate Simmons holds meet and greet
Abden Simmons supporters hosted a meet, greet and sign event for their Senate District 13 candidate last Thursday night, Jan. 20 in Waldoboro. Gubernatorial candidate Paul LePage and National Committeewoman Ellie Espling stopped in to chat and show their support.
Both LePage and Abden are looking forward to the opportunity to “Open Maine for Business,” a theme of Paul LePage in the years he served as governor. Both are concerned about the lack of skilled labor in Maine and the difficulty in finding people to fill open positions.
Both expressed their concern of the plan to make our fishing grounds into a wind farm and the negative impact that will have on our fishing and lobster industry. Both are interested in promoting trade schools to teach our young people job skills.
Abden shared his experience in a program when he was in school that taught skills such as the carpentry, plumbing, and wiring necessary to build homes. There was also a discussion of establishing an EMS school in the midcoast area to train people in the skills needed to address our aging population and staff EMS positions. They are looking forward to working with each other in the future.
Events like this are being scheduled around our county to give voters an opportunity to drop in, meet, talk to, learn about, and support the candidates.
