Leigh F. Reinecke
Leigh Franklin Reinecke passed away Jan. 26, 2022, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Leigh was born Aug. 8, 1950 at Miles Memorial Hospital because the maternity ward at St. Andrews Hospital was full; he joked that he never got over that.
Leigh attended local schools, graduating from Boothbay Region High School in 1968. Leigh attended SMVTI and was sworn into the United States Army in 1970, serving in Viet Nam.
After his military service Leigh worked as a caretaker on Squirrel Island, for the Boothbay Water District and then for Boothbay Homebuilders. Leigh started his own carpentry business in 1984. He married Victoria (Vicki Wotton) in 1986 and made their home in West Boothbay Harbor where they raised their family and numerous rescue animals. Leigh was an avid Boothbay Seahawks fan, having played sports all through school and was always available for his children's activities and to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Leigh served on the Town of Boothbay Harbor Board of Appeals, the board of the Boothbay Region Historical Society and the West Harbor Pond Association.
Leigh and Vicki built a log cabin in the Western Mountains where they loved spending time together. Never one to sit still for very long, Leigh always had numerous projects underway on the land. He especially loved bird hunting in the fall and looked forward to his annual hunting trip with his life long best friend, Bob Wallace.
Leigh was predeceased by his parents, Zora and Otto Reinecke.
He is survived by his wife Vicki; daughter Lindsay (Jason) Mello and grandson Riley Baker of Newburyport, Massachusetts; son Adam Reinecke of Boothbay Harbor; sister Sharon (Ken) Gaecklein of Edgecomb; brother David (Nadeen) of Arvada, Colorado; his beloved rescue pets Savannah and Gronkowski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to Boothbay Region Historical Society, 72 Oak Street, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538; The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, 86 Townsend Ave. Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538; or Midcoast Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011
At Leigh’s request there will be no funeral. A private gathering will be held at a later date.
