Strawberry festival June 25
Save Saturday, June 25, for a return to times of yore when St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, mounts its 68th Festival of all things Strawberry. After a two-year hiatus thanks to the pandemic, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the church grounds will be where the notable shortcakes made up of homemade biscuits brimming with luscious, native, fresh-picked and crushed strawberries then piled high with fresh whipped cream or locally made ice cream will be served up. It’s once again the sign that summer has begun, for sure.
Quarts of berries picked just that morning will be for sale. Why not let St. Philip’s members do the picking for you?
Hot dogs, you say? Got ’em. Can’t eat just one? There will be opportunity for two, three, or more. Somehow eating hot dogs in the open air just boosts the appetite. For the vegetarians and vegans among us, there will be veggie dogs, too.
While munching on those dogs, one could roam the all-outside event where there will be the chance to buy crafts, antiques, plants, baked goods and more. The Bargain Basement will be open for the bargain hunters among us — and who isn’t a bargain hunter? The children’s area will be available for the little ones to have some fun, too. All of this is a chance for a pleasant visit to simpler times, with the hope for healthier times ahead.
The Strawberry Festival is a major fundraiser for the church and its outreach programs. The Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry, Feed Our Scholars Backpack Program, along with its Set For Success school supply initiative, and the Bargain Basement Thrift Shop with its commitment to providing those in need no-cost clothes and housewares for those suffering life disruptions. St. Philip’s also provides meeting space for various social support services. All monies raised go to this purpose.
