David Lee
A good man has left us. David Lee died October 8, 2022. He was a storybook-style architect and builder and left behind many worlds of wonder - timeless designs that continue to feed the imagination in all of us. As a friend so aptly put it, “David took the eternal and turned it into wood and stone.”
His homes have been featured in many magazines and local news stories, and on HGTV’s “Offbeat America” and “Dream Builders.” A full page photo of a home he built in Maine, locally dubbed the Mushroom Cottage, once graced the back cover of Fine Homebuilding magazine.
David grew up in Vermont and served in the National Guard for five years. He became a journeyman machinist after a three-year apprenticeship and earned a bachelor of science and engineering degree. While an apprentice, David worked on the Apollo Space Missions. Parts with his time clock number on them are sitting on the moon and floating in space. He was also employed as a private detective.
David was so stimulating to be around as he jumped from one idea to the next, latching onto each thread he could weave with you. He wrote articles and a blog for Backwoods Home Magazine for many years. His book, Creative Home Improvement, presents ten of his projects.
David was also known for his artwork and he had a minor role in Brainstorm, Natalie Wood’s final movie. He was a sweet, kind, and generous soul who wanted only the best for everyone and who will live on in our hearts and minds through all of his remarkable creativity.
David is survived by his wife Jennifer, daughter Laura, and siblings JoAnn, Mark, and Edwin. To extend online condolences, please visit www.hallfuneralhomes.com
