First grade schools the competition in Christmas tree decorating
This year’s Charlie Brown Christmas Tree Decorating Contest winner is Cindy Casey’s first grade class at Edgecomb Eddy School. In 2017, Edgecomb created the competition to celebrate the holiday season. This was a team competition with competitors ranging from pre-kindergarten to grade six classrooms.
Students decorated trees Dec. 9 at the Edgecomb town hall during the morning. In the afternoon, judges reviewed seven trees based on this year’s theme, “Clean out the closet.” Edgecomb Selectman Mike Smith advised competitors, “Don’t spend money on decorations. Use whatever you can find in your classrooms.”
This year’s runner-up was Sally Monroe’s pre-kindergarten class. Judges were Edgecomb Post Master Candace Chapman, former Cod Cove Inn owner Jill Hugger and Boothbay Register reporter Bill Pearson.
At 5 p.m., students and townspeople attended a post-competition ceremony which included refreshments and Christmas caroling.
