Boothbay Region YMCA offers LIVESTRONG program
Boothbay Region YMCA is now offering LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, which is a free, 12-week recovery program for adult cancer patients and survivors. Registration is currently open for the session that begins on Tuesday, April 4. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We do ask that you would commit to the program and attend class two times a week for 12 weeks as the program is specially designed for positive improvement and physical accomplishments. Class sizes are small to provide individualized attention: and therefore, space is limited.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program is an evidence-based physical activity and well-being program to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health following a cancer diagnosis. This 12-week program is offered at no cost to participants. Lori Murray and Deb Lewis are Y staff, trained in supportive care will work with participants to achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance and improving confidence and self-esteem. In addition to physical benefits, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on the emotional well-being of survivors and their families by providing a supportive community where people affected by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond. The program has proven to be life-changing for many participants.
“We are excited to continue LIVESTRONG at the Y to our community,” said Caroline Earle Ivens, Healthy Living Director for the Boothbay Region YMCA. “At the Y, we believe that in order to bring about meaningful change, individuals affected by cancer need ongoing support, encouragement and connections to others-all of which LIVESTRONG at the YMCA provides abundance.”
Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA helps participants move beyond cancer in spirit, mind, and body.
“Maine Cancer Foundation’s grant is offered as part of their ongoing efforts to reduce cancer incidence and mortality in Maine.
