Veggies to Table kicks off new season
Veggies to Table has kicked off our fifth season of growing and donating organic produce and flowers to those in need of food and joy in the community. We are excited to introduce our 2023 crew.
Cris DeRusha, the Farm manager, is a world traveler who comes with 10+ years farming experience – from Columbia and Australia to Vermont and Florida. His ideas will enhance efficiency so even more produce and flowers are donated to the hungry.
Miranda Dillinger and Abigail Lyman, the farm team come to us with a great deal of farming, gardening, and landscaping experience and a lot of enthusiasm for feeding our community.
Erica Berman, our Executive Director, Tali Pieper, Development Assistant and Justine Roths, Consultant, round up the team making sure everything is running smoothly at Veggies to Table.
Seed donations
For the fourth year in a row Veggies to Table has donated thousands of seeds to the Newcastle Ecumenical, Boothbay Region, and Jefferson Area Community food pantries. There will be more seeds donated at the CLC-YMCA event this Saturday (see below) so local folks can start their own garden and grow their own food.
Healthy Kids at the CLC-YMCA
On Saturday, April 29, Veggies to Table will have a table at the CLC-YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day with seeds to donate. We will be happy to meet the community and talk all things Veggies, flowers and how to get involved. Additionally, along with seeds they will be donating packets of snap and shell pea seeds to children with the catch that they need to send us photos of them and the peas they grow. One lucky winner will get their photo submitted to the local papers.
Corporate sponsor program
It is through grants, donors, and sponsors that Veggies to Table can grow organic produce to feed those who live with hunger in our community. We are actively seeking new business sponsors to help us reach our goals. You can reach out to find out more about corporate sponsor program and how to get involved. Currently funds are being raised for a toolshed, propagation greenhouse, and on-site lodging for crew.

Dahlias
As part of its fundraising Veggies to Table sells dahlia tubers. Luckily there is still time to order some of their gorgeous tubers to plant this spring. Dahlias will thrive after the danger of frost has passed. If you order a mix of 11 dahlias and enter in code Freedahlia2023LCN you will receive a 12th dahlia for free.
