Veggies to Table is a Hannaford Fight Hunger Bag Program beneficiary
The tulips and daffodils are in full bloom and Veggies to Table, a not-for-profit, organic, grow-to-donate vegetable and flower farm, has been selected as a beneficiary of the Damriscotta Hannaford Fight Hunger Bag Program for the month of May.
Launched in April 2014, the Hannaford Fight Hunger Bag Program is a reusable bag program that enables customers to help make a positive difference in the communities where they live and work.
Store leadership at the Hannaford in Damariscotta selected Veggies to Table as its May program beneficiary; the non-profit will receive a $1 donation each time a shopper buys a $2.50 Hannaford Fight Hunger Bag at this location during May, unless they indicate a different recipient on the attached Giving Tag attached.
“We’re over the moon we were chosen for this honor, and to know we have both local community and business support,” said Erica Berman, executive director of Veggies to Table. “These donations will enable us to meet even more of the nutritional needs of the many hungry people in our community—and to bring them joy, too, with our beautiful flowers. The money will also help us keep serving as a welcoming hub for volunteers, where people of all ages, beliefs, and backgrounds can connect and create enduring relationships right here on the farm.”
Veggies to Table was founded in 2019 in Newcastle, Maine by Berman and her husband, Alain Ollier, to bring healthful, nutrient-dense produce to the many hungry people in the community. The non-profit farm provides food and flowers to people from many different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds through more than 35 local partner organizations, including food pantries, schools, and hospitals. To date, it has donated almost 45,000 pounds of produce.
