Daren L. Graves II
Daren Loyd Graves II of Boothbay Harbor passed away on June 1, 2023.
He was born Feb. 1, 1949, in Gouverneur, New York, the son of Daren L. and Shirley (Raymo) Graves. He was the eldest of 11 children and grew up on a dairy farm in Ellisburg, New York.
He enlisted in the United State Marine Corps, most notably serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969. Following his service in the military he continued to serve as a member of law enforcement and emergency medical services in various Maine towns for over 17 years; ending his career in law enforcement with the Boothbay Harbor Police Department after being recruited by the late Police Chief, Floyd McDonough. Daren also served many years as Boothbay Harbor’s EMT Director. Later, he opened and operated G&G Towing and Quick Service for over 25 years.
He was an active member of the Edgecomb Fire Department, Rotary of Boothbay Harbor, Knights of Pythias, and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time at the Boothbay Community Center playing cards. Daren was a community leader and was happy to help those in need. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, football and playing cribbage with his grandkids, he was a family man.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah of Boothbay Harbor; two sons Daren L. (Jillene) Graves III of Benton and Joshua Graves of Winslow and daughter, Denise Graves Keeley of Greenacres, Florida; stepchildren David (Angelica) Murray of Barters Island and Sarah (Donnie) Clark of Edgecomb; and his beloved grandchildren Christopher Graves, Kelsey Graves, Kade Graves, Chelsie Graves, Kasey Graves, Nicholas Keeley, Ryan Clark, Emma Keeley, and Abbie Clark, Keegan Murray, Miles Murray, Ethan Clark; and great-grandchildren Avery, Amiya, Ashtynn and Carter.
He is also survived by his siblings Greg (Eileen) Graves of Union, Missouri; Christine Caird of Mannsville, New York; Darlene Jeffords of Mannsville, New York; Charlie Graves of Mannsville, New York, Cynthia Graves of Bridgeport, New York; Danny (Kim) Graves of Mannsville, New York; Lori Cashel, of Rodman, New York.
Also surviving are his longtime friends John and JoEllen Gallant and his beloved dog Cinnamon.
Daren was predeceased by his parents Daren and Shirley Graves, his sister Kathleen Graves and his brothers Dennis Graves and Ronnie Graves.
At the family’s request, he will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the VA Cemetery in Augusta in late August/early September.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans or the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor.
