Veggies to Table receives grant from Maine Community Foundation
The Maine Community Foundation recently awarded Veggies to Table a grant of $10,000 to support the general operations of this grow-to-donate organic vegetable and flower farm. The funds will enable the Lincoln County non-profit to keep providing nutritious, delicious, life-sustaining produce (and joy-giving flowers) to the people in the community who need it most.
Since its founding in 1983, The Maine Community Foundation has distributed over $500 million in grants and scholarships to build a better Maine, investing in its people to help build healthy communities and a thriving economy. Their grant to Veggies to Table reflects their commitment to supporting community-based programs that directly help Mainers in need.
About 15% of Maine families are food insecure, as they lack consistent access to enough food for everyone in their households to live active, healthy lives; at 20%, the percentage of food-insecure children is even higher. Veggies to Table’s was founded to help address this enormous need.
“We were beyond excited to receive this generous grant and will use it to ensure that Veggies to Table puts down even stronger roots, building community and giving people the kind of sustenance that will help them flourish,” said Executive Director Erica Berman, who started and runs the not-for-profit organization with her husband, Alain Ollier, supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
Veggies to Table works with more than 35 local partner organizations, including food pantries, schools, and hospitals, to fill hungry stomachs and lift spirits with their beautiful blooms. Since its founding in 2019, Veggies to Table has donated nearly 45,000 pounds of produce and over 44,000 colorful, fragrant flower stems to pantries, schools, low-income housing, healthcare workers, teachers, the Maine CDC, Togus veterans, and Hannaford and Renys employees, too!
