Beloved author, Judy Blume, is headed to the big screen at Lincoln Theater. Her classic, groundbreaking, and multi award-winning 1970 novel “Are you there God? It’s Me, Margaret” has been adapted into a film starring big screen favorites Kathy Bates and Rachel McAdams, and featurinig Abby Ryder Forston as 11-year-old Margaret, navigating new friends, feelings, and the beginning of adolescence.
Master Gardener (R; 1 hour, 47 minutes) Directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Schrader based on his original screenplay, the film follows Narvel Roth (Joel Edgerton), the meticulous horticulturist of Gracewood Gardens. He is as much devoted to tending the grounds of this beautiful and historic estate, to pandering to his employer, the wealthy dowager Mrs. Haverhill (Sigourney Weaver). When she demands that Roth take on her wayward and troubled great-niece as a new apprentice, chaos enters Narvel’s spartan existence, unlocking dark secrets from a buried violent past that threaten them all. Talking Aquaculture in Maine is a free series of conversations with innovators who are making a substantial contribution to aquaculture here in the state of Maine. Join host Molly Miller, PhD, of the Island Institute as she welcomes special guests Fiona de Koning, and Afton Vigue, for a discussion on Women on the Water. Dive into the experience of women in the aquaculture industry and learn about the various roles these impressive women have in the industry as well as the challenges they face. From farmers and business owners to research and industry leaders, we have a breadth of experience and knowledge to share with you about the current state and future trajectory of aquaculture in Maine. Are you There God? It’s Me, Margaret (PG-13; 1 hour, 45 minutes) For over 50 years, Judy Blume’s classic and groundbreaking novel “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” has impacted generations with its timeless coming of age story, insightful humor, and candid exploration of life’s biggest questions. In Lionsgate’s big-screen adaptation, 11-year-old Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) is uprooted from her life in New York City for the suburbs of New Jersey, going through the messy and tumultuous throes of puberty with new friends in a new school. She relies on her mother, Barbara (Rachel McAdams), who is also struggling to adjust to life outside the big city, and her adoring grandmother, Sylvia (Kathy Bates), who isn’t happy they moved away and likes to remind them every chance she gets. National Theatre Live: Good (3 hours) David Tennant (Doctor Who) makes a much-anticipated return to the West End in a blistering reimagining of one of Britain’s most powerful, political plays. As the world faces its Second World War, John Halder, a good, intelligent German professor, finds himself pulled into a movement with unthinkable consequences. Olivier Award-winner Dominic Cooke (Follies) directs C.P. Taylor’s timely tale, with a cast that also features Elliot Levey (Coriolanus) and Sharon Small (The Bay). Filmed live at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London.
