Wiscasset FOS bake sale at Ames July 15
Wiscasset Feed Our Scholars (FOS) is busy procuring school supplies that will help the Wiscasset Elementary School (WES) and Wiscasset Middle High School’s middle school children be ready for a successful start to the next school year. The group is planning a bake sale on Saturday, July 15, from 7:30 to 1:30, at Ames Supply in Wiscasset.
The exciting S4S event is moving to Wiscasset Community Center on Gardiner Road, where there will be a happy celebration during which WES and the middle school students and their families will be able to pick up their red and black backpacks, complete with wolf paw print or wolverine logo (the schools’ mascots) into which they will put their teacher-required supplies.
But that is only the beginning of the event. Mary Coventry, coordinator of Set for Success, is diligently scheduling informative displays and community information. As well, she is working with Healthy Lincoln County to have its food truck offer lunch; a school bus, Wiscasset fire and police with their vehicles for touch-a-truck; Coventry is also working with hairdressers to offer children a chance for a pre-school clip. St. Philip’s Bargain Basement will have a free gently used clothes shopping area for the children. These and more community groups are coming together to make it a celebration of education and the children’s future.
This opportunity is open to all Wiscasset Elementary students, Wiscasset Middle High School’s middle school students, and home-schooled children who would qualify for attending those Wiscasset schools, no matter financial ability.
To help make this happen, donations can be mailed to St. Philip's Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, ME 04578. Please note "Feed Our Scholars" or "Set for Success" on the memo line. Or buy supplies and leave them in boxes at St. Philip’s Church hall at 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset Community Center, or the First Bank on Gardiner Road. Easier still, visit the group’s Amazon wish list at tinyurl.com/S4S2023 where the supplies can be bought and sent to St. Philip’s for you.
