Meet Our Writers: Candice “Candi” Joneth
I began writing for the Boothbay Register in the Fall 2022 as a freelance news contributor. I had just graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in sustainable agriculture and wanted a part-time job that would allow time to continue my academic research and hone my skills as a writer. When I saw the paper needed part-time local writers, it was kismet.
My husband Alex and I bought the old Captain Rice house in East Boothbay at the height of the pandemic in 2020. We will continue to work on her restoration for many years to come. Many, years to come. Yes, many.
Our daughter, Chloe, is a rising sophomore at Boothbay Region High School. We came by way of Kansas City where I was a real estate portfolio manager for 10 years (yawn) and volunteer data analyst for the school system.
I’m honored to write personal interest stories and profiles for the Register. The power, impact and importance of our communities’ achievements are central to our sense of place and how we relate to one another as citizens. We have award-winning chefs, retiring and incoming civil servants, curious students, blockbusting athletes, dedicated teachers and talented artists. We have resilient industries, charming family businesses and phenomenal nonprofits that show up every day, in every way for the benefit of our friends, family and neighbors.
Every profile I write is steeped in admiration and I hope that is evident to our readers. We live in a special place, full of special people and it’s my pleasure to write their tributes, tell their stories, and recognize and celebrate their milestones and successes.
