Summer airshow at Owls Head Aug. 5-6
The Owls Head Transportation Museum (OHTM) is poised to host the largest airshow in the state this summer with their Wings & Wheels Spectacular on Aug. 5 and 6. On both Saturday and Sunday, the sky above Owls Head will be filled with aviation acts including aerobatic performers, historic military warbirds and skydivers. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (weather permitting). Performances begin 12:30 at Owls Head Transportation Museum, 117 Museum St., Owls Head, Maine.
Event participants include warbirds flown by the American Airpower Museum: a P-51 Mustang and a P-40 Warhawk- complete with camouflage wings and a shark-grin nose. Former U.S. Nationals competitor David Windmiller will be performing a wide repertoire of aerobatic acts from his Zivko Edge 540, and Scott Francis will be flying his high performance MXS aircraft. The all-carbon fiber monoplane is one of only 12 in existence. Plus, Vacationland Skydiving will open both days of the show with skydiving demonstrations!
There will also be plenty of fun on the ground! With a Kids STEM Activity Center, free vintage car rides and demonstrations, this event is fun for the whole family. With interactive displays, exhibitor car show and an open-air café and gift shop, this event will keep guests of all ages entertained.
Located three miles from Rockland, visiting performers will take off alongside biplanes from OHTM’s historic collection. Weather permitting, guests can experience sky-high excitement in the air! All of OHTM’s planes fly at all their summer events, and guests may purchase a scenic flight in the open-air cockpit of a 1932 WACO or two 1940s Stearmans.
Ticket Rates: Kids: Free (10 and under); Youth: $5 (11 to 17) *please note price change; Adults: $25; Seniors: $23. Members: Free (members get free admission to the museum and all outdoor events)
