Suicide Loss, Grief Support Groups begin this month
One thing that has been proven to assist people when grieving a loss of any kind is having the ability to connect with others who are on the same journey. Two new support groups begin this month to make those connections.
The Suicide Loss Support Group is being offered on six consecutive Tuesdays at 2 p.m. beginning Aug. 22 at the Inn Along the Way, 741 Main Street in Damariscotta. These one-hour sessions are for those who have experienced loss of a loved one to suicide at any point in their lives. It will be facilitated by Kathe Pilibosian, licensed clinical social worker with Maine Healthcare at Home and Sherry Flint, president of Inn Along the Way.
Those interested in participating must call 207-468-3144 before the first session. The group’s membership will be closed to new members once it is formed and walk-ins are not permitted. There is no charge to attend and refreshments are available.
The Life After Loss Grief Support Group meets on the third Thursday of every month from 4-5 p.m. in the Watson Health Center community room on the LincolnHealth Miles campus in Damariscotta.
Maine Behavioral Health Licensed Social Worker Lauri Stetson facilitates the group, which provides education around how people experience grief, focuses on activities of healing and allows plenty of time for all to share their experiences and learn from each other.
There is no charge to participate and while registration is not required, those interested should call 563-4644 to indicate their desire to attend or to ask questions.
