WMHS’s Cam Bishop leaving for Morse
Wiscasset Middle High School is searching for a new vice principal and athletic director following the resignation of Cameron Bishop. Bishop is leaving to become dean of students at Morse High School in Bath.
“I am truly indebted to Wiscasset Middle High School and the broader Wiscasset community for all of the support that they have given me over the past three years. I have been able to establish so many positive relationships with students, parents, and school supporters that it has made leaving even more difficult. What I will miss most will be the daily interactions with all of the students that I have gotten to know, along with my fellow colleagues,” wrote Bishop in a statement to the Boothbay Register-Wiscasset Newspaper.
Bishop announced he was leaving in an email to coaches and staff members Aug. 21.
“I wanted to let you all know that I have accepted a new position in another district and will no longer be the athletic director at Wiscasset. This was a sudden development; with my two young girls, (one of whom is beginning school this year and will be involved in more activities), the constant driving to and from my house in Brunswick to Wiscasset will become a problem in the years ahead,” he wrote.
“I wanted to thank you all for dedicating your time and energies towards improving our sports programs and for providing our students with an enjoyable high school experience. Coaching isn't easy and I know the immense time commitment that you all devote to doing this job.”
Bishop said he began teaching at WMHS in the fall of 2020 and taught classes in U.S. history, government and civics. He was named athletic director in summer 2022 and assistant principal this past June.
“I am confident that with the coaches that are in place and with Principal Gina Stevens as its leader, WMHS will become stronger and recommitted to excellence in every aspect of educating the youth of the community,” wrote Bishop.
