CTL students visit Biscay Apple Orchard
Students from the Center for Teaching and Learning enjoyed a fun-filled morning at Damariscotta's Biscay Orchards on Friday, Sept. 29. CTL's kindergartners through fourth graders explored the orchard grounds, where approximately 500 apple trees thrive on six lush acres between the Pemaquid Lake and Biscay Pond. Students also picked perfectly-ripened apples, sipped the orchard's unpasteurized cider, and savored apple cider donuts!
CTL is grateful to Michael Reny and his family for welcoming students to Biscay Orchard each fall. Students often write poetry inspired by the beautiful orchard, New England's autumn colors, and delicious apples after this beloved annual trip.
According to their website, Biscay Orchard grows numerous varieties of apples, including McIntosh, Cortland and Macoun. In addition to the many varieties of apples grown at Biscay, the orchard also stocks pastries, donuts, apple pies, jams, jellies, salsas, maple products, sharp cheddar cheese and many other crafts. And once the apples are ripe, Biscay Orchards presses their own cider, which has developed quite a local reputation.
