Wiscasset to talk sewer plant’s future
Will Wiscasset put up a seawall at its sewer treatment plant, or move the plant? If so, where? The town has been eying its options and, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 in the municipal meeting room and at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89949074298?pwd=UllSQTRtd1RqQ1YvSEV5T0l6UWNsQT09, selectmen will discuss them.
The Nov. 9 agenda, released Nov. 2, calls for discussing “the issues with the (plant’s) current location ... and options to upgrade and relocate.” Upgrading the plant and making it resilient to sea level rise has been estimated at $20-plus million; moving it, about twice that, according to Wiscasset Newspaper files.
The agenda notes the seawall and moving options. As for moving, the agenda lists Federal Street, Mason Station and unspecified “other” areas with town-owned land to consider. The discussion is also set to touch on any possible sites besides ones the town owns; and finally, the prospect of either creating or combining with a utility district.
