Crafts named chair of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee
Rep. Lydia Crafts, D-Newcastle, will serve as House Chair of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee in the Second Regular Session of the 131st Legislature after being appointed to the committee by Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as House chair of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee this session,” said Crafts. “I have been honored to serve as a committee member, and I am looking forward to using my previous experience in this new leadership role to work closely with my colleagues on crucial infrastructure bills. Providing Maine with efficient and effective infrastructure benefits all of us. It ensures our safety, enhances economic development and improves livability right here in Lincoln County.”
The former House chair, Rep. Lynne Williams, D-Bar Harbor, is now a member of the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee.
The committee oversees the Department of Transportation, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Maine Turnpike Authority and the Highway Fund, as well as policy related to bridge and highway construction, driver education and highway safety.
Rep. Crafts is serving her second term in the Maine House, representing Bristol, Damariscotta, Monhegan Plantation, Newcastle and Nobleboro.
