Alna sets special and annual town meetings
Alna selectmen set the annual town meeting Nov. 30 for March 22 at the polls, hours to be announced, and 10 a.m. March 23 for the open part. That will hopefully be in the fire station’s meeting room, First Selectman Ed Pentaleri said.
That is the site of the special town meeting to cover the higher pay for the new code enforcement officer. The board set that vote Nov. 30 for 10 a.m. Dec. 16. When selectmen voted Nov. 2 to hire Bruce Engert as CEO and local plumbing inspector, they said he would get $250 a week and 56 cents a mile “for non-commute, work-related mileage,” and that a town vote would be needed on funding.
The special town meeting warrant presented Nov. 30 asks if voters will authorize the board to “appropriate up to $8,500 from the undesignated funds balance” to pay the CEO/LPI, “in addition to any funds already designated” for that.
The warrant article includes a note stating the board has appointed someone for $13,000 a year plus the 56 cents a mile, up to $2,000, for a maximum stipend of $15,000; and that last March’s annual town meeting raised $6,500 for the CEO/LPI, “so the board is seeking authorization for the difference, up to $8,500, to fulfill the terms of the new stipend.”
Pentaleri consulted with town counsel and Maine Municipal Association when he drafted the warrant.
Also Nov. 30, the board hired Dresden’s Sam Cameron as deputy town clerk, at $20 an hour, up to 15 hours a week. She can start in January, Pentaleri said.
