Marian L. Woodsome
Marian Louise (Toots, Min) Woodsome passed away Dec. 29, 2023 at St. Andrews Village, Gregory Wing after a slow, steady decline in health. She was 87 years old.
Marian was born June 25, 1936 in Melrose, Massachusetts to John O. Woodsome Jr. and Josephine Woodsome. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother John O. Woodsome III and sister-in-law Dorothy Woodsome.
Marian was a social person, able to carry on conversation with anyone she met. She was known for her fun-loving personality, her sparkling blue eyes, her impish giggle and her beautiful soprano voice. She had a deep love for her family and enjoyed spending time with them at any opportunity given. Her other great love was music. She sang in several choruses and choirs in her adult life, studied opera with Miriam Casassa and held numerous solo performances for various social groups.
Marian received a BA in music from Colby College in 1958 (where she met her first husband John Ludwig) and later went on to obtain a master’s degree from Fitchburg State University. As a dedicated elementary school music teacher in Townsend, Massachusetts, Marian positively impacted the lives of many students throughout her career. She gave private piano and vocal lessons as well, laying the ground work for some students’ professional careers.
Marian will be deeply missed and is survived by her partner John Ludwig, her daughters Cindy Gottlieb and husband Ruediger, Sarah White and husband John, son Scott Ludwig and wife Laura, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Marian will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: HANDS, P.O. Marian Louise Woodsome will be fondly remembered for her deep love of family and music, her dedication to education and her vibrant personality. Her legacy lives on through her family and countless lives she touched throughout her life.
