Harry L. Pinkham passed away peacefully on Feb. 8, 2024 at the St. Andrews Village Zimmerli Pavilion.

Harry was born on Dec. 29, 1927 in Boothbay Harbor. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman Pinkham and Harriet Grover.

After graduation from high school, he worked for several employers in the region before being called by the Army to serve in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952, rising to the rank of staff sergeant upon his discharge. He then served in the Army and Air Force reserves for an additional nine years.

In 1953, he joined the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. After 30 years of service, he retired in 1983. Harry was a dedicated public servant for over 80 years of his life, receiving the prestigious Rotary Club’s Lifetime Service Award in 2014.

His numerous public service positions included serving as a commissioner of the Boothbay Harbor Water District and its successor, the Boothbay Region Water District, for 39 years. He was a trustee of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library for 26 years, a trustee of the Oak Lawn Cemetery for four years, and a trustee of the Boothbay Region Historical Society.

Harry was a charter member of the Boothbay Region Lions Club which was formed in 1953 and member of the American Legion Post #36 for over 70 years, serving as post commander on two occasions and finance officer for many years. Harry was also a member of the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department for 60 years as both a firefighter and later a traffic control officer.

Harry also served the town of Boothbay Harbor in many capacities. He was the director of Civil Emergency Preparedness for nearly 50 years and, for various periods of time, the Sealer of Weights and Measures, the town assessor, town meeting moderator, ballot clerk, and reserve officer for the police department.

Harry was an active member in Seaside Lodge #144 of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons and related organizations since 1953. In 1985, he was designated by the Lodge as a lifetime member.

Harry’s familiar face and spirit of volunteerisam will be missed by all who knew him.

He will be interred at a later date. There are no public services planned at this time.
