Hiram W. Sibley V
Hiram Watson Sibley V was born in Rochester, New York on July 14, 1932, to his parents Anne Robbins and Hiram Sibley IV. He passed away peacefully at Coves Edge in Damariscotta on May 3, 2024, after visiting with some of his family who got a chance to say goodbye.
Hiram attended Groton School and Trinity College and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Forces Korea Network as a radio announcer providing news and entertainment to our troops. After the Army Hiram lived in the Boston, Massachusetts area and was a radio announcer at WMLO where he organized the broadcasting of the Boston Pops. He later moved to Maine where he worked for WCME and proudly brought Lessons and Carols from Kings College Cambridge to the airwaves during the holiday seasons.
Hiram, always quick with a vivid story even in his last days, will be remembered for his sly sense of humor and warm personality. He loved drinking Coca Cola. His nieces and nephews couldn’t pronounce the word so they shortened it to Gogo, and Hiram would forever be known as Uncle Gogo.
He is survived by his children Libby Sterling and her husband Darryl, Hiram T. Sibley and his wife Katarina, Christopher Sibley, and Hope L’Heareux, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and by his sister Nancy Kennedy. He was predeceased by his brother Tom Sibley, and by his sister Marie Louise Scudder.
Hiram will continue to cheer for his beloved Red Sox in heaven!
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Hodgdon Green and Coves Edge who took excellent care of him in his final years.
The family will hold a private ceremony later.
Halls of Waldoboro has care of the arrangements. To extend online condolences, visit Hiram’s Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
