Michael J. Mayhew
In profound sadness, we said good-bye to Michael J. Mayhew on Oct. 8, 2024.
Michael was born the fifth child to Jean Hammond and Stanley Joeseph Mayhew Jr. in Bath, Maine on Jan. 20, 1955. At a very young age, the Mayhews moved to Falmouth, Maine, and continued to grow as a family of eight children.
Michael attended the Falmouth School system and graduated from Falmouth High School in 1973. He continued his education at Widener College in PA. and the University of Maine, graduating in 1979 with a mechanical engineering degree. He successfully utilized his degree in many roles held numerous engineering jobs across the state and continued taking classes and professional development in alternative energy. In 1980, he began consulting on saving energy and designing alternative energy projects. His consulting ultimately became the birth of his own company Heliotropic Technologies.
Michael married Trudy Harrington 39 years and 357 days ago on Oct 15, 1984. Michael was the very proud father of Brett (Liz), Brian (Nikki), Brittany (Rob), Samuel and the late Gregory. He was an exceptional, fun-loving grandpa to Jackson, Aidan, Anna, Nora, Thompson and Emmitt. He was very much a family man and never turned down a gathering whether it be in New York, Baltimore, Virginia or as close as down the street. He loved his siblings and their offspring dearly. He was also especially close to many of his cousins and a special aunt Cynthia Grady. Michael had numerous wonderful friends from near and far.
Michael’s meaningful career helped him and his clients reduce their environmental footprints. He was a true environmentalist taking great pride in his home and his community. He was awarded an environmental leader by the Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Mid Coast Environmental Hall of Fame. Michael was a member of the American Solar Energy Society, The Association of Energy Engineers, and the Green Building Engineers.
Michael J. Mayhew was a steward to our planet and a man of great generosity whether helping a family member or helping a perfect stranger. He never hesitated to offer assistance to a person in need.
Michael lived his life by these words:
“Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their maker, but whoever is kind to the needs honors God.” Proverbs 14.31
