'Go Gold For Cancer' fundraiser raises over $10K
Second year success! Heads of the Harbor Salon held its second annual “Go Gold For Cancer” fundraiser in honor of Jameson Brooks who passed away December of 2022 from childhood cancer. This year the salon set a goal to raise more than the first year. In 2023 they raised $6,000 and this year they raised over $10,400. Hundreds of salon clients, friends and family stopped by with donations from $1 to over $1,000.
Salon owner Lora Rinow “appreciates every donation” and notes that every $1 counts to help fight this horrible disease. Free trial size gifts were handed out to people who donated, and names were entered to win the top raffle prizes. This year’s winners were Becky Knapp, Mike Breen, Maryanne Reynolds, Arlene Smith and Mary Pellarin.
This year the money will again be donated to the Maine Children’s Cancer Foundation and local Special Olympics in honor of Jameson. The third annual fundraiser is already being discussed. Jameson made a big impact in his life, even if he only had 11 1/2 years to do it and this fundraiser will keep his memory alive.
