Stanley A. Cooper
Stanley A. Cooper, 88, of Boothbay, passed away on Nov. 23, 2024, at Windward Gardens in Camden.
Stanley was born on Dec. 30, 1935, in Houlton, Maine to parents Albert and Mary (Wakefield) Cooper.
Stanley was born in Houlton, living his early years in Howe Brook, Maine. He then lived in Augusta during his middle school years. His family moved to Portland, Maine when he was a teenager and he graduated from Portland HS in 1953.
In 1953, Stanley joined the military, serving first in the United States Marines and then transferring to the Air Force. He made his career in the Air Force as a computer equipment analyst. In 1978, he received Government Service Employee of the Year for his contribution to the creation, development, and management of the Air Force Data Systems Design Center. He attended Troy University in Alabama and was part of the graduating class of 1975.
Stanley was also active in his communities. In Boxborough Massachusetts, he was part of the town's planning board and wrote the pay scale for town employees that is still used today. When he retired, he moved full time to Boothbay and became part of the Boothbay Civic Association, the Boothbay Masonic Lodge. He also sampled water for ocean sciences at Bigelow Laboratory and set up the Boothbay Region cable TV station.
In his free time, Stanley enjoyed woodworking, clock making and upkeep, history, bird watching, travel, photography, and boating. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and community.
He was predeceased by his wife Carolyn Lewis Cooper, and daughter Kadawn A. Rollins.
Stanley is survived by his daughters Rhonda Searles and husband John of Westbrook, Mary Cooper of Shirley, Massachusetts, Constance Bodine and husband Keith of Union, and Kelly Kent and husband Jonathan of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren Ethan and Aaron Gervais; Amanda, Megan, and Cassandra Kent; Dr. Madeleine Bodine, Grant, and Hamish Bodine; and Hannah Cooper.
The family has chosen to honor Stanley’s life privately. He will be laid to rest in the spring at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
