Murder victim's wallet found in frozen Edgecomb pond
Around 10 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 9, two ice fishermen in Edgecomb reportedly found a wallet belonging to William "Nate" Robinson, 34, of Austinville, Virginia. Robinson is a murder victim whose body was found Dec. 3, 2024 inside a trash barrel at Schmid Preserve.
The wallet was found frozen in a small pond near Old County Road. Nicholas Morley of Boothbay found it as he and a fellow fisherman, who asked not to be named, dug holes in the ice to fish. They immediately contacted Lincoln County Sheriff's Office reporting their discovery.
"We looked inside to see who owned the wallet," Morley said. "I saw he had a Virginia license and I kind of recognized the name, and thought, this might not be good."
Two LCSO officers and three Maine State troopers arrived around 11 a.m. Thursday at the scene and took possession of the wallet.
On Jan. 10, Public Information Officer Shannon Moss of Maine Department of Public Safety confirmed the wallet belonged to Robinson and is evidence in the murder investigation.
According to a Maine State Police press release, Maine State Police detectives executed a search warrant on Dec. 12, 2024 at 57 Conant Road in Turner. The investigation found evidence allegedly linking Luke Krott, 26, of Edgecomb to the murder. Kroft was later arrested.
Earlier this month, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined Robinson died of a gunshot wound and ruled the manner of death a homicide.
The MSP reported Krott, who had been staying with his parents in Edgecomb, left the state. He was apprehended Jan. 6 by San Diego Police Department's Fugitive Task Force, FBI, and U.S. Marshals Service. Krott was found on a sailboat in San Diego, according to the Maine State Police.
At 11:30 a.m. Jan. 9, Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett said he couldn't confirm if the wallet had been reported. "I haven't heard anything about it. Let me check and I will get back to you." Jan. 10, Brackett referred all questions to the Maine State Major Crimes Unit.
