The importance of worms discussed at Story Time
Wiggle and Waggle are two worms that are great friends. They live and work in a large garden making sure the potatoes, carrots, beans and tomatoes have proper soil to grow big in. This important job they have does not feel like work to them, it is fun! They love to dig, make tunnels, swim in puddles and sing while they work.
Reading "Wiggle and Waggle" by Caroline Arnold to the children at Story Time was a fun way to learn about the important role worms have in gardens as well as nature. We also read "Wiggle" by Doreen Cronin, which was a great way to do some wiggling ourselves. After the story, the children were asked to place paper worms on a bulletin board where they think the worms like to spend time. They could choose from grass, water or under dirt. Then, by using uncooked whole wheat pasta and brown yarn, we all made our own take home worms that could wiggle.
Story Time at the Wiscasset Public Library takes place each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and all are welcome. For more information, call 207-882-7161.
