Rising Tide Community Market donates to Community Housing Improvement Project
Rising Tide Community Market recently donated $341.13 to Lincoln County-based Community Housing Improvement Project (CHIP) through its Co-ops for Community Day program, which lets shoppers give back to the community just by doing their normal grocery shopping on Wednesdays.
Each month, Rising Tide donates 0.5 percent of Rising Tide’s Wednesday sales to a different local nonprofit organization. CHIP was the beneficiary for October 2014.
The Community Housing Improvement Project makes basic home repairs for area residents who don’t have the resources or ability to do so themselves. Their mission is "Neighbors helping neighbors keep their homes safe, warm, and dry."
Volunteers are always needed for their annual Community Cares Day in September. Learn more about CHIP’s projects at: www.chipinc.org or on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chipinc.org.
Each spring, Rising Tide member-owners nominate and vote on the nonprofits that will participate in the Co-ops for Community Day (CCD) program for the upcoming year. For November and December 2014, Rising Tide’s Community Investment Fund is the CCD recipient. The Community Investment Fund provides grants of $100-$300 to local organizations working in the areas of environment, community, food and hunger and cooperatives. More information about this grant opportunity can be found at www.risingtide.coop/cif.
Upcoming organizations that will receive Co-ops for Community Day donations over the winter include: January 2015, Damariscotta River Association; February 2015, Pemaquid Watershed Association; and March 2015, Community Energy Fund.
