Wiscasset Parks and Recreation presents 'Winterfest' Jan. 31
Celebrate winter in the Wiscasset region during Wiscasset Parks and Recreation’s "Winterfest," sponsored by The First, on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to present a day of winter activities in and around the Wiscasset Community Center. Highlights include an all-day ice sculpting demonstration with great photo opportunities.
As in years past, Chewonki Foundation is attending with a presentation called “Birds of Prey-Owl Presentation.” They will have their outdoor camping demonstration set up in the front yard of the WCC and lead snowshoe naturalist walks. The Wiscasset Public Library will be offering a winter storytelling time.
Wiscasset Sno-Goers will be offering insight into their winter activities with free snowmobile rides from 2 to 4 p.m.
The evening promises big fun as well starting with a spaghetti dinner put on by the Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Scholarship Committee. All donations collected will be used for WCC program scholarships. Spaghetti with sauce and meatballs, garden salad, homemade bread from Bellefleur’s Bakery in Newcastle and dessert will be served.
A fireworks show will commence at 6:45 p.m. over the lower field at WHS. If you have never taken in the spectacle of fireworks in winter, you have to see this show!
Round out the day with a family community dance featuring The Dyer Neck Gang. Come and dance to live music from 7 to 9 p.m.
Non-perishable food donations will be collected for entrance to the dance, and those donations will be taken to a local food bank. Also popular last year was ice skating under the stars. with bonfires blazing and hot cocoa at the playground park.
A complete list of events is available at the Wiscasset Community Center, the Wiscasset town office, or either of their Facebook pages.
