BRAF’s Art in the Square 2015: Let the creativity begin!
A new shipment of 12 by 12-inch canvas squares has just arrived at 1 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor. This is the “green light” for all regional artists to obtain just the thing needed to create their latest masterpieces.
This challenge is for people of all ages to use their imaginations to paint, draw, glue, print, weave or whatever upon 144 square inches (not counting the edges) of empty, white space.
The artwork must be submitted to the BRAF gallery Monday, Nov. 23, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. or Thursday, Nov. 24, between 9 a.m. and noon to be ready for Black Friday, Nov. 27, the first day of the exhibition. Based on tradition, sales will be brisk most of that day.
The purpose of this endeavor is to raise money for BRAF’s Scholarship Fund and sponsorship of the Annual K-12 Student Art Show. Each of the 12 by 12-inch painted squares sell for $100 with $25 from each sale donated to the scholarship fund. It is also of benefit to the local economy: the artist earns $75 for each of their canvases sold.
And, customers have the chance to purchase original artwork at an affordable price just in time for holiday gift giving.
“Art in the Square” continues through BRAF's holiday celebrations with an open house and reception during the Harbor Lights Festival on Dec. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m.
