Art and ecology exhibition opening in Brunswick
An artist, poets and foresters will present an exhibition, and related events, in response to trees that are dying off on Monhegan and adjacent islands. The exhibition entitled, “A Protest Artist on Monhegan,” will present the paintings and drawings of Leonard Meiselman and include poetry readings and a panel discussion.
This exhibition, at the Curtis Memorial Library of Brunswick, will run the month of January. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. in the Morrell Meeting Room.

Meiselman will speak about his work at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 13, presented by Midcoast Senior College.
Poets Terry Grasse, Kristen Lindquist, Gary Lawless, Stephen Petroff, Pam Smith and Ellen Taylor will read from their work in an evening entitled “Conversations with Trees” on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
Foresters Lloyed Irland, Jack Witham, Phillip Conkling and Ken Laustsen will hold a panel discussion entitled “Spruce and Saltwater” about the health of Maine’s Coastal Forests on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 5 p.m., sponsored by Maine Coast Heritage Trust and Wolfe’s Neck Farm.
All events are open to public and free of charge.
The Curtis Memorial Library is located at 23 Pleasant Street, Brunswick.
