Just a reminder ... River Arts in Damariscotta is inviting artists to submit work for its upcoming “Black, White & Tones of Grey” exhibition.  We are welcoming submissions in any media: painting, sculpture, photography, graphic arts, drawing and fine crafts.  Submitted works of art should not include any notes of saturated or brilliant color. Finding inspiration in subtle temperature shifts of black, white and/or tones of grey is encouraged. Work can be submitted during gallery hours anytime Saturday, Jan. 9 at 4 pm. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 15 from 5-7. The exhibition will hang until Feb.  11.

 

The juror for the exhibition will be Tina Ingraham. Born in Kenton, Ohio in 1947, Ingraham received her MFA from Brooklyn College of CUNY in 1996 and a bachelor of science in design at the University of Cincinnati, College of DAAP in 1970. She has a broad history in a variety of teaching experiences, done independently and within educational institutions including Bowdoin College, Stephens College, Maine College of Art and Brooklyn College where she was awarded The Charles G. Shaw Teaching Fellowship.  She is currently writing a text on teaching painting developed from her approach to teaching color theory directly on the palette, inspired by her study of master paintings relevant to her work.

 

As a 1999 John Simon Guggenheim Grant recipient, Ms. Ingraham painted in Italy from 1999 until 2003. Recent awards include a 2016 Project Grant from the Maine Commission for the Arts for her continued work on the evolution of Popham Beach in Phippsburg, Maine. Collected internationally, her work may be purchased through Somerville Manning Gallery in Greenville, Delaware, Boston Art Inc., in Boston, MA, and Sylvan Gallery in Wiscasset.
