Morris Farm hosts new February Vacation Farm Camp
The fields at Morris Farm may be sleeping under a winter blanket of snow and ice, but new programs are sprouting up at the educational farm in Wiscasset. Morris Farm will host an all-new Winter Vacation Farm Camp Feb. 21-24, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Kids ages 5-12 (grades K-6) will have the opportunity to adventure outdoors, exploring the plants and animals of the farm and in the forest. Campers will gain farming and homesteading skills (fiber arts, baking, fermentation, and sprouting), as well as naturalist skills (tracking, plant identification, nature journaling, and fire-building). Each day will focus on an animal theme and include a visit from a local farmer.
“Farm Camp is about awakening curiosity and connecting with the world around us, “ according to Lisa Packard, the new farm educator. “It’s about building confidence in children as they learn new skills. It’s exciting to hear a shy child say, ‘Wow! I can make my own yogurt!’ and then ask how to make cheese and be the first in line to bottle-feed the calf.”
Tuition for Farm Camp is $155 for members, $180 for non-members. Child care is also available 3:30-4 for $5 per day.
