Healthy Cooking for Kids at FARMS Community Kitchen
Join us for a cooking series beginning March 8, using the Maine Local Twenty, which is the name the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) has given the 20 foods that Maine can produce for its citizens to enjoy all year long.
This series will be taught by Karen Kleinkopf, FARMS youth program director, and Amanda Cooke, Farm-to-School intern.
The basis of our menus will be these locally grown foods. We will use them to create interesting, delicious, nutritionally balanced meals. Participants will also learn kitchen basics: how to peel, slice, dice, roast, bake, simmer and stew. We will end each class by sitting down together and sharing the dishes we created.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays, March 8, 15, 22, 29, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the FARMS Community Kitchen. Sign up for one class or all four. The cost is $15 per class or $55 for the series. Scholarships available for SNAP-Ed recipients. This series is for kids aged 7-12.
