'Hippos are Huge' with student voters
Wiscasset Elementary School students from kindergarten to grade four have selected "Hippos are Huge" with 52 votes as their choice to win the Chickadee Award. Written by Jonathan London and illustrated by Matthew Truema, "Hippos Are Huge" includes gorgeous mixed-media illustrations and accessible, engaging language, that is sure to spur interest in the world of hippos.
In second place is "Mother Bruce" with 45 votes. "Mother Bruce" is written and illustrated by Ryan T. Higgins and tells the story of a grumpy bear named Bruce who likes to keep to himself and eat eggs. Hilarity ensues when his hard-boiled goose eggs turn out to be real, live goslings.
Placing third is "A Lucky Author Has a Dog" with 20 votes. Written by Mary Lynn Ray and illustrated by Steven Henry, "A Lucky Author Has a Dog" shows a day in the life of an author who works from home. The author lives in a city with her dog who helps with ideas.
