Wiscasset’s top scholars announced
Wiscasset Middle High School is proud to announce that the following members of the Class of 2017 have earned the distinction of “Top Scholars.” These seniors each have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Gabrielle Marie Chapman has earned many accolades during her time at WMHS. She vPaul J. Pendrokalues education and puts her best effort into her studies and commitments. Gabby has maintained a high standard in her academic classes while playing basketball, soccer and track all four years of high school. She has been a class officer, a member of the National Honor Society, Outing Club and Science Club, and has been Student Council president. Gabby received the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Book Award her junior year and is a member of the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. Her many volunteer activities include visiting veterans at Togus each year, working at a local soup kitchen and coaching soccer at the Community Center. Gabby doesn’t do these things for praise or recognition, she does them because she genuinely likes helping others and being a part of her community.
The daughter of Scott and Candace Chapman of Wiscasset, Gabby will attend the University of Maine in the fall. She will major in biology with a pre-med concentration.
Grant Wood Hefler serves as president of the National Honor Society and vice president of Student Council. Grant is thoughtful, responsible and highly motivated academically, taking AP and honors level classes whenever possible. Also an impressive athlete, Grant is captain of the soccer and golf teams. Grant has successfully participated at the state level in golf. He is a member of the Outing Club. His volunteer time has been at the Community Center basketball games, at Beach Clean Up, and he has helped to rebuild the baseball field. Grant received the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Achievement Award and the Wesleyan University Book Award his junior year. He was a National Academy of Future Scientists and Technology participant. Grant’s work ethic and dedication to his learning are nicely balanced with a friendly personality and involvement in school, earning him the respect of faculty and students alike.
Grant is the son of Gregg Wood and Karen Hefler of Wiscasset. He will attend Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts where he will major in international business.
