‘Build a Better World’ reading program at library
“Be a builder!”Coming soon is June 20, the first day of summer and the first day of Wiscasset Public Library’s Summer Reading Program: “Build a Better World.” The library is the perfect place for children and families to become empowered to build a better world! Through books, games, and many STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities, participants will discover new ways of looking at the world around them. Reach for the stars; go forth and build a better world!
Registration begins on June 20 and ends on July 7. When registering in the Children’s Room, each reader/listener will receive a packet containing guidelines for the program, a book title log, a bookmark, and activity sheet with stickers, and a list of all our programs and special events.
Each week during the program, readers will have a new building project to complete. We’ll make castles, towers, bridges, houses, mobiles, neighborhoods and more…
Several exciting“Build a Better World” programs are planned, including:
- Wiscasset Garden Club will build a better world by helping the children plant marigolds in our library gardens on Tuesday, June 27 at 10 a.m.
- Matt Loosigian, award-winning musician of Earth Jam, specializing in playful, funny songs about ecology and being green, will entertain us on Tuesday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m.
- Second annual Family Day at Castle Tucker takes place on Wednesday, July 26. “Storytime on the Lawn” begins at 10:30 a.m. Lawn games and house tours will be from noon to 2 p.m.
- Chewonki Foundation will bring their new program, Biomimicry:Engineering Inspired by Nature, to the library on Wed. Aug.9 at 10 a.m.
