SVRSU 12 budget passes
Voters in all towns but Somerville supported Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit 12’s 2017-18 budget offer. It passed with a district-wide vote of 514-236, or 69 percent to 31 percent, in numbers Superintendent of Schools Howie Tuttle provided Wednesday morning.
“RSU 12 students are fortunate to have such strong support for education in their communities,” Tuttle wrote in a text response to a request for comment.
According to information district officials presented in Alna earlier this spring, and which Tuttle said did not change prior to Tuesday’s vote, the next budget totals $21.4 million, a 2.8 percent hike over this year’s.
Tuttle’s town-by-town breakdown of the vote lists Alna as favoring the budget 47-3; Chelsea, 75-48; Palermo, 50-14; Westport Island, 138-18; Whitefield, 79-20; and Windsor, 80-61. Somerville voters rejected the proposal, with 45 votes in favor, 72 against.
